The first rule in finishing a basement is to try to make the new basement look like the upper floors and not a Basement. This is accomplished by eliminating the duct work, plumbing pipes, and other obstructions that lower the ceiling. This project I recall was one of the most challenging. This is the basement before we started.
After removing all the obsticles we could. And moving some of the
others. We had to design a ceiling to box in the things we could not remove. We
also had to leave some of the support columns. We enclosed them with wood to
look as attractive as we could. After all the work we were left with a basement
that looked better than most of us could have imagined. This is the same
basement after we were through.
While
not the
most
attractive basement we have done I think it turned out fine. Most contractors
would not have taken the time to try to raise the ceiling. The owner would most
likely would have had gotten a low drop ceiling.
Here are more examples of some of the basements we have done.
